Happy one year anniversary to the album Some Nights!
It’s been a crazy journey hasn’t it? By this time last year they had already released We Are Young as a single about four months prior. It would remain in near obscurity except to those who were already existing fans. That is until Glee covered it in December 2011. And then just a few weeks before Some Nights’ release, *boom* We Are Young aired in a Superbowl commercial. I really think this is where fun. started to gain momentum, even if people weren’t necessarily buying their album.
Long story short, We Are Young became very overplayed (no denying it) and became no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Some Nights became every young person’s existential crisis theme song in the summer and continuing on into the fall semester. This is more my opinion than actual fact, but I think after the song Some Nights was released a lot more people looked into actually buying the album. And finally, fun. released Carry On in late October ‘12. A song about persevering through the hard times that I’ve always loved.
We can’t forget to mention that fun. was nominated for 6 Grammys! Just two Sundays ago, they proceeded to win Best New Artist (even if they’ve been around since ‘08) and Best Song. It’s crazy. Today is Some Nights’ birthday and it’s just incredible to see how so much has changed since their sophomore album dropped. It honestly blows my mind that fun. is basically a household name.
I could go on and ramble forever, but I’ll stop for now.
