☺Random Things

My birthday is coming up in less than a week.

I’m content on material things so I was thinking in lieu of gifts that we could support some charities for my B-day.

I really have such a good life.
I always have enough to eat, a lot of the time I’m a glutton. :/
Even though I’m horrible at keeping myself properly hydrated, I always have clean water available to drink.
And I am honestly blessed with great opportunities and can basically do whatever I want, while others struggle financially to support themselves

So, if you want, you can consider donating. That’d be really sweet. You can tell me on Sunday if you donate to any of these organizations, or you could just keep it to yourself if you want. Either way I’m thankful and I think you’re awesome.

Signal Boost: Manila Floods

sssammich:

Excerpt from abs-cbnnews.com:

MANILA - Torrential monsoon rains flooded half of the Philippine capital on Tuesday, killing at least 16 people as rampaging waters swept away homes, destroyed bridges and triggered a landslide in a shanty town.

Some residents were marooned on their roofs as parts of Manila were submerged in waters above head height in the worst flooding to hit the chaotic city of 15 million people since hundreds of people died three years ago.

“Right now we’re on a massive rescue operation,” Office of Civil Defence director Edgardo Ollet told AFP, warning the death toll would rise after people had ignored warnings to leave their homes.

“We are positive we still have more dead because there are some who won’t evacuate.”

Bad weather from seasonal southwest monsoons and Typhoon Saola had already pounded Manila and nearby areas for over a week, soaking the ground and raising dam levels to capacity.

Meteorologists said more than half the amount of rain normally seen in August then fell on the city in 24 hours, and warned the deluge would continue overnight and into Wednesday.

From the New York Times:

Major streets in Manila turned to rivers on Monday after a series of tropical storms intensified what has historically been a period of heavy monsoon rains.

Schools, business and government offices were ordered closed while city residents watched in horror as neighborhood after neighborhood was submerged. Tens of thousands of residents were rescued or swam to safety. Others huddled on rooftops in hopes that the waters would subside.

Other news coverage (or just google Manila Floods):

It’s only been THREE YEARS since the last time it flooded this heavily and dangerously in the Philippines. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers; if you can aid them in any way, don’t hesitate! Reblog and/or post in other social media networks to get the word out.

Other people have stated that you can donate to the Philippine Red Cross HERE and that you don’t need to be in the Philippines to do so.

If you decide to donate, the conversion rate that PayPal uses is 1 U.S. Dollar = 40.5587 Philippine Pesos. So 406 PHP would be about $10 USD, etc.
Prayer is always great too!

If any of you are so inclined to donate to my Relay team…

you can go here and give a team donation. We have 76.25% of our goal. Even just $5 would be greatly appreciated.
If you don’t know, Relay For Life is an event where teams do laps relay-style for 12 straight hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Added incentive to donate is that we’ll be doing “Lunges for Lives”. It’s ABF’s team tradition of doing a full lap of lunges. And EVERY team member has to do it. (This year it seems no one has trained; it should be fun)

Thanks for the support.

They’re good quality mugs.

I’ll be honest, my cut is horrible; just 20% before shipping and handling and all that.

But for each mug purchased before 2012, I will donate $2 to charity: water.

If you would not like to purchase a mug, but want to help fund water projects, you can donate directly to my friend’s campaign.

Reblog please.

I’m going to save up to help families and villages in need.

Ever imagine your mundane life without running water?  No running water means you don’t get a toilet, sink, shower, and clean drinking water (even tap water).
Imagine living like that in Tucson.  This means you would have to travel to the nearest water source (think, where could that be?), and it probably isn’t clean either.

At least 1 billion people have to live without clean, running water everyday.  Women and children have to travel by foot for hours at a time to gather little water.

Be a change in people’s lives.  With your donation, you can help provide more than just clean water.  :)

Shout out to our donors!: my mother!, Solena Curry, Anthony Lee, Paul Choi, Aaron Kim, Patrick Park, Daniel Kim, Ryan Johnson, Jee-Hyun Song, and Mrs. Cho.
Together we’ve raised $375!  Thank you so much everyone for your donations!

Let’s not stop here!  We still have to reach our $1500 goal! GOGOGOGO!!

See this reblog/quote that’s right here? This is very important so pay attention.

The always lovely Chelsea is raising money for Charity: Water. An organization in which every single cent goes to helping people all over the world get clean water. Did you know about 1/7 of the world’s population doesn’t have access to drinkable water? And here some of us are in a desert, living our daily lives with no worries of dehydration.

So far she has raised money to help 18 people. That’s pretty good. But you know what? She wants to help at least 75. This is Chelsea’s Christmas wish. For you to help her save lives. Bringing water to a community will prolong the lives and the influence of those whom we will be helping. I’m not an eloquent speaker… erm, typer. But I just wanted to tell you, the reader, “Hey, this is a good cause. You should help out in this campaign. It’s really a selfless act and so simple. Just give any amount and it will be helpful.”

I’ve already donated to charity: water and plan to again soon. So, yeah. Help out?
Yeah? Maybe? Thanks.

I was never much for fundraising,

but my Relay for Life team is just $44.50 from our goal of $500! (Counting offline donations)

Please donate if you can and are willing!!!
